Indoor Plants for Your Apartment

Indoor Plants for Your Apartment

Indoor Plants for Your Apartment

There are several benefits of having plants in your apartment. Plants bring life to a space and make it feel more inviting. Plants also produce oxygen! Breathe easy while your plant absorbs sunlight and turns carbon dioxide into food while giving off oxygen. Plants also help to purify the air, keeping your apartment fresh and breathable. The Apartments at Los Carneros is sharing some houseplant recommendations for your Goleta, CA apartment in this blog post.

Aloe Vera

The aloe vera plant is useful in many ways. It’s a great detox ingredient, skin soother for burns, and hair conditioner. It prefers lots of light and little watering. Check out the link above for more information on what type of soil, container, and watering it needs to thrive.

Orchid

Orchids produce beautiful flowers in a variety of colors depending on what plant you buy. Orchids can be tricky to care for, but if you learn what they need and when they need it your orchids should thrive in your space.

Peace Lily

The peace lily thrives with very little light. This plant needs very little humidity but its soil should be consistently moist. The peace lily is beautiful — with deep green leaves and white flowers — and it’s perfect for anyone who prefers to keep their rooms dark.

Clivia

Clivias are great houseplants that require little attention. They produce beautiful orange and/or yellow flowers. Make sure to keep them in a place that will get a little bit of sunlight, but not direct light. They prefer being kept more dry, so water them only when the top inch of soil is dry.

Succulents

Succulents are a popular item to grow indoors. They require very little care and look beautiful. Buy a variety of them for a fun succulent garden that will look great in your windowsill.

Books Set in California to Read

Reading is a great way to keep your mind healthy and active. Try reading a new book this month and reap the benefits that come from reading every day. We’ve got a few book suggestions for books that are set in California that you can read and enjoy at your apartment here in Goleta, CA or out by the pool here at The Apartments at Los Carneros.

Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck

The compelling story of two outsiders striving to find their place in an unforgiving world. Drifters in search of work, George and his simple-minded friend Lennie have nothing in the world except each other and a dream—a dream that one day they will have some land of their own. Eventually they find work on a ranch in California’s Salinas Valley, but their hopes are doomed as Lennie, struggling against extreme cruelty, misunderstanding and feelings of jealousy, becomes a victim of his own strength.

White Oleander by Janet Fitch

Ingrid, a brilliant poet imprisoned for murder, and her daughter, Astrid, whose odyssey through a series of Los Angeles foster homes—each its own universe, with its own laws, its own dangers, its own hard lessons to be learned—becomes a redeeming and surprising journey of self-discovery.

The Octopus: A Story of California by Frank Norris

Like the tentacles of an octopus, the tracks of the railroad reached out across California, as if to grasp everything of value in the state Based on an actual, bloody dispute between wheat farmers and the Southern Pacific Railroad in 1880, The Octopus is a stunning novel of the waning days of the frontier West.

Less Than Zero by Bret Easton Ellis

Set in Los Angeles in the early 1980’s, this coolly mesmerizing novel is a raw, powerful portrait of a lost generation who have experienced sex, drugs, and disaffection at too early an age, in a world shaped by casual nihilism, passivity, and too much money a place devoid of feeling or hope.
